FAQs
Frequently asked questions
What is CIS payroll, and how is it different from standard payroll?
CIS covers payments to subcontractors. You deduct tax from the labour element, pay it to HMRC, file a monthly return and issue deduction statements. We can run CIS and PAYE payroll together.
When are CIS monthly returns due?
By the 19th of the month after each tax month (6th to 5th). If you paid no subcontractors, you may still need a nil return.
What if I pay a subcontractor before verifying them?
You won’t know the correct deduction rate, and HMRC can hold you responsible for any shortfall. We verify every subcontractor before first payment.
What do you need from us each pay period?
Hours or agreed amounts for each subcontractor, the labour and materials split, any VAT, and details of starters and leavers.
